FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Answers to frequently asked questions are found below:

My son turns 4 this year; is he eligible to play?

Our programs begin with the Tee Ball division for Little League age four (4) year-olds. Note that Little League age is often different from a child's actual age. Visit the Little League Age Calculator to determine a player's league age.

I just moved to town and noticed there are two local leagues. Which league do I register for?

There are two Little League organizations in Roswell, NM with each being defined by a boundary as approved by Little League International. Children who reside or attend school within the league's boundaries are eligible to play for that league. To find which league you are eligible to play for, please visit the Little League League Finder tool. Note that residency must be proven during registration using one of the forms outlined under Little League's Residency Requirements (see also "What forms are required for registration?")

A player will be deemed to reside within the league boundaries if:

  • His/her parents are living together and are residing within such league boundaries, OR;
  • Either of the player’s parents (or his/her court-appointed legal guardian) reside within such boundaries. It is unacceptable if a parent moves into a league’s boundaries for the purpose of qualifying for tournament play. As detailed later in these rules, the penalty for violation of this rule may, in Little League Baseball, Incorporated’s discretion, result in the disqualification of a player, team or entire league from the regular season and/or tournament play.
“Residence,” “reside” and “residing” refers to a place of bonafide continuous habitation. A place of residence once established shall not be considered changed unless the parents, parent or guardian makes a bonafide change of residence.

What forms are required for registration?

Noon Optimist Little League requires residency be verified by uploading either a school enrollment form OR documents from each of three groups as outlined here. The school enrollment form is the preferred method for verifying residency as it is a single document that may annually be reused until a player changes schools (at which point a new form must be completed). The school enrollment form must be completed by a school administrator, principal, or vice-principal. During the registration process, the easiest way to upload the required documents is to snap a photo with your phone and upload the resulting picture. Please be sure to obfuscate any sensitive information before uploading!

Can I request a coach or teammate?

Teammate and/or coach requests can be made during registration using the "Special Requests" field for all divisions without a draft. When creating teams, league personnel will try to accommodate as many requests as possible using this field (only!). Requests made by email or other forms of electronic communication will be ignored. Please be as specific as possible when completing the special requests field - including, as necessary, any reasoning behind the request. Teams are set in the following divisions using a player draft and are thus not eligible for teammate and/or coach requests:

  • PeeWee
  • Minors
  • Majors
Siblings playing in the same division should be indicated during registration by entering their name(s) in the appropriate question. Noon Optimist Little League desires to keep siblings together for all ages so long as they are playing in the same division. Cousins may request to play on the same team in the Tee-Ball, Machine Pitch, and PeeWee divisions but additional draft rules may apply for cousin requests in the PeeWee division.

How can I volunteer?

From coaches to board members, Noon Optimist Little League depends on volunteers! During the registration process, each website user will be presented with the option to volunteer. Selecting a role during the registration process greatly assists our ability to plan for the season. Please note all volunteers must complete and pass a background check before interacting with any players in our league. The background check will be sent to you by email from JDP shortly after you register for a role. All background checks are performed online using the JDP Quick Application process; paper forms are no longer required or accepted.
